Reopening of Hormuz Hinges on Iran's Conditions Araghchi stated that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz depends on meeting several conditions that Tehran has put forward to the US. Iran's proposal includes a seven-day ceasefire in Iran and Lebanon, the lifting of US naval blockades on Iranian ports, the removal of sanctions on oil exports, and the unfreezing of Iranian assets held abroad. In return, Tehran is prepared to reopen the shipping route and resume negotiations regarding its nuclear program. US stocks: US market falls as higher oil prices, Treasury yields weigh

Interest RatesInflation

US stocks fell on Monday as oil prices and Treasury yields increased, with investors weighing uncertainty over the prospects for an Iran war peace deal and the impact on the Federal Reserve's rate path.Crude prices had jumped after US President Donald Trump rejected a peace deal from Iran but pared gains on expectations that Qatari mediators would hold talks with the two countries to find a possible deal. After retreating from highs at the start of the month, oil prices have accelerated higher in recent days as hopes that a peace deal may be on the horizon have diminished. The rising prices of crude and diesel fuel have fanned inflation worries and pushed US Treasury yields higher, along with comments from Fed officials indicating that more rate hikes might be needed if price pressures fail to moderate after the central bank raised interest rates by 25 basis points earlier this month."Iran is driving oil prices, and oil prices are driving inflation, and inflation is driving interest rates," said Jack Ablin, chief investment strategist and founding partner at Cresset Capital Management in Chicago. "We're getting to a point now where interest rates are looking pretty attractive relative to equities, which is really the first time in close to 20 years, so that's something that we're certainly paying attention to.""It's less of an earnings story right now than it is a valuation story," he said. "When you get an asset class that has been fighting with one arm tied behind its back for 20 years, now all of a sudden it's looking pretty competitive."According to preliminary data, the S&P 500 lost 59.00 points, or 0.76%, to end at 7,684.41 points, while the Nasdaq Composite lost 246.62 points, or 0.91%, to 26,822.09.

Qatar leads world in tourism price competitiveness improvement, jumps 10 places in WEF index

Earnings

Doha: Qatar recorded the world’s largest improvement in tourism price competitiveness and climbed 10 places to 47th globally in the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Travel & Tourism Development Index 2026.

Qatar’s score in the index’s Price Competitiveness pillar improved by 49%, the largest increase among the economies assessed, while its overall Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI) score rose by 6% compared with 2024.

Qatar also posted the fastest overall improvement in the Middle East.

The gain in price competitiveness stands out against a broader global trend of rising travel costs.

The WEF said price competitiveness deteriorated across most economies between 2024 and 2026 as tourism-related costs increased.

The Price Competitiveness pillar assesses factors affecting the cost of travelling and operating in a destination, including hotel prices and other travel-related costs.

The improvement therefore reflects changes in Qatar’s score under the WEF methodology rather than a designation of Qatar as the world’s cheapest tourism destination.

Qatar also recorded the second-largest improvement worldwide in Openness to Travel & Tourism, with its score rising by 12%.
