Smartkarma | SK Inc (034730 KS): Synthetic Expert Call Transcript (03 Oct 2026)

Dividends

» Smartkarma / by αSK SmartScripts / Equity Bottom-Up Chairman Chey’s landmark 2.3% share sale in SK Inc. (disclosed on October 2, 2026 for 944 billion won) is a watershed moment for South Korean corporate governance. It proves that personal liquidity pressures from his divorce settlement are overriding the historical "no-sale" taboo of controlling stakes, yet the innovative use of a Price Return Swap (PRS) for 400 billion won of the transaction preserves his economic interest and minimizes immediate market dump. The 2.3 trillion won divestment of SK Inc.’s 70.6% stake in SK Siltron to Doosan in July 2026 signals the final, execution-heavy phase of SK’s three-year group-wide rebalancing. This cash injection directly supports the holding company’s Value-up commitment, enabling the planned cancellation of its 20% treasury stock and funding the floor dividend of 5,000 won per share. SK Inc. remains plagued by a "double discount" structural trap, trading at an approximate 50% discount to NAV.

Which Korean stocks offer highest dividend yields this year?

DividendsEarnings

High-dividend stocks are drawing renewed attention as Korea enters the year-end payout season with the KOSPI confined to a narrow range, analysts said Sunday. According to financial data provider FnGuide, Korea District Heating Corp. is expected to offer the highest dividend yield this year among listed companies covered by at least three brokerages. The company is projected to pay 6,520 won ($4.69) per share this year, up 363 won from 6,157 won a year earlier, translating into an estimated dividend yield of 8.69 percent. Dividend yield is calculated by dividing the dividend per share by the share price. AJ Networks, a rental service group, ranked next, with an estimated dividend of 343 won per share and a dividend yield of 8.33 percent. Brokerage stocks also featured prominently, buoyed by a strong first-half market rally and a sharp improvement in earnings. Smartkarma | Korea Investment Holdings Co, Ltd. (071050 KS): Synthetic Expert Call Transcript (17 Sep 2026)

Dividends

» Smartkarma / by αSK SmartScripts / Equity Bottom-Up Private Tech Assets Face Delayed Monetization Flow : While Korea Investment Partners (KIP) holds high-profile stakes in Anthropic and SpaceX, their direct flow-through to the parent company, Korea Investment Holdings (KIH), is structurally delayed and discounted. Duplicate listings of subsidiaries are heavily restricted under South Korean regulatory guidelines, making a KIP spin-off highly unlikely and forcing monetization to rely on asset-level exits. Capital Adequacy Restrains Shareholder Returns : The 1.5 trillion won rights offering by Korea Investment & Securities (KIS) in June 2026 positions it to cross the threshold for a Comprehensive Investment Account (IMA) license, but highlights the intense capital absorption of the merchant banking model. This massive capital call, combined with lingering real estate project finance (PF) and bridge loan exposures, strains parent-level liquidity. Succession Dynamics Stifle Corporate Value-up : The promotion of Chairman Kim Nam-koo’s eldest son, Kim Dong-yoon , to Senior Managing Director on August 18, 2026 , marks the official start of the third-generation succession.

Yong's resignation and lessons for Lee gov't

Exchange Traded FundsDividendsFX Market

The resignation of Yong Hye-in as President Lee Jae Myung’s nominee for minister of gender equality and family affairs is more than the withdrawal of a controversial candidate. It is a reminder that legal eligibility is not the same as political legitimacy, and that public officials must meet a higher standard of accountability than merely staying within the boundaries of the law. Yong announced her resignation Sunday, just 14 days after Lee nominated her. Until only a few days ago, she had firmly rejected calls to step down, arguing that there was nothing legally wrong with simultaneously retaining her proportional representation seat in the National Assembly and serving as a Cabinet minister. Technically, that argument had a legal basis. The National Assembly Act permits lawmakers to concurrently serve as Cabinet members. But politics is not conducted solely through legal technicalities. Public office requires not only legality but also public trust, political responsibility and a willingness to avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest.
