Dubai: The Dubai Films and Games Commission (DFGC), an entity under the Dubai Media Council, has announced the launch of a national short film competition projecting the incredible strength, solidarity and resilience displayed by people from across the UAE amid the spectre of challenging regional events. Launched under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, the initiative titled ‘Stories of Our Determination’ will spotlight profound human experiences through film while offering a unique platform aimed at encouraging students of media to explore the medium of film and gain hands-on exposure in creative production techniques. Curated by the DFGC, the initiative provides a platform for Emirati and UAE-based filmmakers of all nationalities, including students, emerging talent, first-time filmmakers and professionals alike to showcase their craft through stories of national unity, resolve, and triumph. Accepted formats include Fiction, Documentary, Animation, Experimental film, AI-generated or AI-assisted film, Hybrid and mobile-phone filmmaking.

Films Forum to bring together leading names from Arab and international cinema, drama and music

Dubai: Under the Arab Media Summit 2026, taking place from 15 to 17 September, the Dubai Films and Games Commission, part of the Dubai Media Council, will organise the Films Forum, bringing together leading figures from cinema, drama and music alongside directors, producers, experts and creative industry leaders from across the region and the world. A strategic platform within the Summit, the Forum advances Dubai’s vision for the film sector and the creative industries, convening talent, expertise and decision makers to read the fast moving shifts reshaping audiovisual content, and anchoring Dubai as a global destination for creative production and a magnet for talent and investment. Dubai: During its annual iPhone launch event, titled ‘Surprise and Shine’ this year, Apple unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, with improvements focusing on four key areas: artificial intelligence, performance, battery, and camera. The company presented the iPhone as a 'smart personal hub', as the iPhone 18 Pro comes powered with the latest Apple artificial intelligence (AI) models, including the most powerful model the company has ever developed to work directly on the device, with the possibility of using more powerful models via private cloud computing when needed. Apple revealed extensive improvements to Siri, making it more capable of understanding personal context and handling information in Mail, Messages, and applications, noting that users of the assistant make more than 2.5 billion requests daily, and that it integrates with more than 300,000 applications. The new AI capabilities are not limited to Siri, as Apple's AI can monitor web pages via the Safari browser and automatically alert the user when changes occur, in addition to creating customised automated processes, such as updating the Calendar and Reminders when messages arrive from school.
