Brazil Current Account Deficit Deepens More Than Expected

DividendsEarnings

Brazil’s current account deficit widened to $5.06 billion in August 2026, up from $3.78 billion in the same month a year earlier and exceeding market expectations of a $4.9 billion shortfall. The services deficit expanded by 28.2% to $5.3 billion, driven mainly by higher net spending on transportation (up 28.3%), intellectual property (52.4%), telecommunications, computing and information services (128.2%), and equipment rental (6.6%). The primary income deficit also increased, reaching $7 billion, reflecting higher outflows related to profits and dividends. Offsetting these pressures, the goods trade surplus widened to $6.6 billion as exports grew 12.1% year-on-year, outpacing a 9.4% rise in imports. The secondary income surplus also increased, reaching $528 million. The material has been provided by InstaForex Company - www.instaforex.com

Ibovespa Slips on Political Risks and Inflation Fears

Exchange Traded FundsDividendsFX Market

The Ibovespa slipped 0.9% on Wednesday, closing at 185,629 points, pressured by a resurgence of political risk in Brazil and escalating tensions in the Middle East. Supreme Court Justice Flávio Dino ordered the reinstatement of Federal Police chief Andrei Rodrigues, granting an emergency petition just one day after Justice André Mendonça had determined his removal. Mendonça, who is leading a wide-ranging fraud probe involving failed lender Banco Master, had accused the Federal Police of illegally surveilling him and other public officials. The episode underscores Brazil’s deepening political polarization in the run-up to the October presidential election. At the same time, intensifying conflict in the Middle East drove oil prices higher, reigniting inflation concerns. Major banks retreated, with Itaú shedding 2% and Bradesco falling 2.4%. Utilities also ended in negative territory, including Axia, which dropped 1.9%. WEG (-1.8%) and Ambev (-1.5%) further weighed on the benchmark. Bucking the broader trend, Petrobras advanced 0.7% on the back of firmer oil prices.

Ibovespa Declines as Banks and Petrobras Slide

Exchange Traded FundsDividendsFX Market

The Ibovespa dropped nearly 1% on Friday, slipping below the 184,000 mark, pressured mainly by declines in the energy and banking sectors. Oil prices retreated despite persistent tensions between the United States and Iran, weighing on Petrobras, which fell close to 1%. Major banks also traded mostly lower as expectations of a US Federal Reserve rate hike in September intensified following a strong US jobs report, with Itaú and Bradesco each losing more than 0.5%. In other financials, Itaúsa declined about 0.5%, while B3 slid nearly 1%. Utilities were also under pressure: Axia fell close to 0.5%, and Sabesp dropped around 1%. Vale edged slightly lower amid subdued iron ore prices. WEG retreated almost 1%, and Rede D’Or slipped about 0.5%. On the political front, the latest Datafolha poll on Brazil’s presidential race, released on Thursday, showed President Lula’s numerical lead over Senator Flávio Bolsonaro narrowing, underscoring a technical tie between the two in a potential October runoff.
