Blocked Consumers

Keeping a record of the consumers you have blocked, what a block actually stops, and how to lift one.

What the Blocked Consumers Page Is For

Your Own Record of Who Is Blocked

Blocked Consumers is a professional account page. It lists everyone you have blocked, one card each, with their name, the reason category recorded at the time, the date, and an Unblock control. With nobody blocked it reads No blocked consumers.

How a Block Gets Created

Blocks are not created from this page. A block is made when you decline an approach and choose to block the person at the same time, which is why every card carries a decline reason category alongside the name. The categories are the same set the decline flow offers, covering practice area, conflict of interest, availability, case complexity, jurisdiction and budget, with an option for anything else. The free text you add is visible only to you and to platform staff.

Finding the Page

Blocked Consumers deliberately sits outside the sidebar, since it is a page you need rarely. Reach it through in-app search or from a link, and note that the list belongs to the profile you are currently working in. If you hold more than one professional profile, switch profile to see the blocks recorded against the other one.

What a Block Stops, and What It Does Not

What It Stops

  • Your profile disappears from that person's view of the directory, from your profile page, and from their search results.
  • They cannot send you a new approach. The attempt simply reports that the professional cannot be found.
  • Every conversation between you that was still active is frozen, and neither side can send anything further in it.

What It Does Not Do

  • It does not tell them they have been blocked. They receive the ordinary decline message for the approach, and nothing more.
  • It does not delete history. A frozen conversation stays readable to both of you, so the record of what was said survives.
  • It does not touch invoices. Anything already issued between you carries on as it was.
  • It does not reach conversations that were already archived at the moment you blocked.
A freeze applies to both of you: a frozen conversation stops your own messages as well as theirs, and neither participant can lift it. Say anything that needs saying before you block.

Unblocking Somebody

Use Unblock on their card and confirm. The card leaves the list straight away, and the record is kept behind the scenes rather than deleted, so a later block reuses the same entry instead of starting a second one.

What Unblocking Restores

  • Your profile becomes visible to them again, in the directory, on your profile page and in search.
  • They can send you a new approach.

What It Leaves Alone

Unblocking does not thaw the frozen conversation, and it does not reopen the approach you declined. That approach stays declined, and the old thread stays frozen and readable. Working together again starts from a fresh approach rather than from where the last one stopped.

A Frozen Thread Needs Support to Lift

Neither participant can unfreeze a conversation, before or after an unblock. If a thread genuinely needs reopening, contact support rather than starting a second one alongside it.

Blocking Compared With the Conversation Controls

The controls on an individual conversation card are lighter than a block, and they do different jobs.

  • Mute silences the unread counter for one thread. Messages still arrive and the thread stays in your list.
  • Archive moves a thread out of your inbox view. It is yours alone, nothing is deleted, and archived threads can be listed again.
  • Report raises a concern with platform staff for review. On its own it blocks, mutes and archives nothing.
  • Blocking a consumer is the only one of the four that removes you from their view of the platform and stops them approaching you again.

None of these tells the other person what you have done.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I block somebody who has never approached me?

No. A block is created as part of declining an approach, so there has to be an approach to decline first.

Will they know?

They are told their approach was declined, which happens whether or not you blocked them. Nothing identifies the block itself, and the pages they can no longer reach behave as though the profile is simply not there.

Does blocking one person affect my other clients?

No. A block is recorded between one professional profile and one person. Everyone else sees your profile exactly as before.

Can I read the old conversation after blocking?

Yes. A frozen thread stays in your list and its history stays readable. What stops is new messages, from either side.

Can a consumer block a professional?

Not in this form. The conversation menu offers a personal block that stops the other participant messaging in that thread, and reporting a conversation sends it to staff for review. Removing a professional from a directory view is a professional side control.
