Belongings Map

A record of where your belongings are kept and how to reach them. We never hold or collect any items.

What the Belongings Map Is For

When someone has to sort out your affairs, the hardest part is often finding things: the spare house key, the original of a document, the storage unit, the notebook with account details. The Belongings Map keeps one list of where those things are and how to reach them.

A record, not a safe

Orchard72 does not take custody of anything. Each entry is simply your own note of a location, shared only with the people you choose and at the time you choose.

Two Kinds of Entry

Standalone Entries

Things that are not assets in their own right, such as a spare key, a pet’s care notes or the original of a document. You describe the item, where it is and how to reach it.

Linked Entries

Possessions, storage locations and digital assets you have already recorded. The map points at the existing record rather than copying it, and possession and digital-asset cards show an “In your Belongings Map” chip that opens the entry.

Location details on an asset are still edited on the asset itself. Documents in your Document Vault can show where the original is kept, so a scan and its paper copy stay connected.

Who Can See It, and When

For each entry you choose the people who may see it and when it is released: once a death has been verified (the default), straight away, or if you lose the capacity to manage your affairs. Your accepted executors also see released entries once a death has been verified. People you have shared entries with find them under “Shared with you” on their own Belongings Map.

Hints, Never Secrets

Keep secrets out of your entries

Never record a PIN, safe combination or password. Write a hint instead, such as which drawer the key is in or who knows the code.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you keep or collect any of my belongings?

No. The Belongings Map is a record only. We never hold, collect, insure or check any physical item; we simply keep a note of where you say things are and pass it on when you choose.

Should I write down PINs, combinations or passwords?

No. Record hints, never secrets: say where a key is, or who knows the combination, rather than the combination itself. If an entry looks like it contains a secret, we show a warning so you can reword it.

When do the people I choose see an entry?

By default, an entry is released once a death has been verified. You can change this for each entry so it is shared straight away, or if you lose the capacity to manage your affairs.

Does it cost extra?

No. The Belongings Map is available on every plan, including the free plan, with no limit on entries.
