Estate Planning News

A news hub covering estate planning and the sector around it. This guide explains the filters, the featured rail, and what happens when you subscribe to a digest.

What You Are Looking At

The news hub gathers estate planning coverage from across the press into one place. Stories are supplied by a news partner, credited at the foot of the page, and are indexed rather than rewritten: opening one takes you to the publisher.

The whole hub is readable without signing in. An account is only needed for the one thing that has to reach you afterwards, which is the email digest.

Narrowing the Stories Down

  • Topic: the subject a story is about, grouped so related topics sit together
  • Country: where the story is from. Picking exactly one changes the page heading to name it, so it is obvious the list has been narrowed
  • Language: the language a story is published in
  • Sentiment: whether the coverage reads as positive, negative or neutral
  • Latest or top rated: newest first, or ranked by how strongly a story scored
  • Search: free text across the stories that pass the filters above

Why it remembers what you picked

Filters are kept on the device that set them and are written into the address of the page, so coming back lands you where you left off and a filtered view can be sent to someone else as a link. On a first visit, before anything has been chosen, the languages are set from a sensible default supplied by the server rather than guessed in the browser.

Scrolling and empty results

The main grid loads more stories as you reach the bottom rather than paging. When a combination of filters matches nothing, the page says so plainly instead of showing an empty space, and a failed load offers a retry rather than leaving a blank column.

Subscribing to a Digest

The Subscribe button turns whatever you are currently looking at into an email digest. The filters you have set are carried into the subscription form, so the digest covers the same ground as the page in front of you.

Choosing how often

How often the digest arrives is the one thing that has to be chosen deliberately. Nothing is selected for you, and the form cannot be submitted until a frequency is picked, so a digest never starts arriving at a rhythm you did not ask for.

Subscribing when signed out

Pressing Subscribe without being signed in remembers the filters and search you had picked and takes you to sign in. The form reopens afterwards already carrying them. The filters visible on the page behind it are deliberately left alone, so signing in does not quietly rearrange the list you were reading.

Subscribing switches marketing emails back on

A digest is delivered by email, so subscribing re-enables marketing emails on your account if you had turned them off. There is no way to receive one without the other. Email preferences under Account remain the place to change this, and doing so there affects the digest too.

Changing or Stopping It

There is one news digest per account rather than one per search, so opening the form again edits the digest you already have instead of adding another. Save stays inactive until something has actually changed.

  • Change it: adjust the filters or the frequency and save
  • Pause it: stop the digest for a set stretch of time without losing the settings behind it
  • Unsubscribe: stop it entirely. Subscribing again later restores a digest rather than being refused as a duplicate
