Karma Programme
Understand how you earn karma, how recognition tiers work, and how to redeem the karma you have earned.
What is karma?
Karma is a points balance you build up by taking part in the things that help our community grow: introducing others to Orchard72 and contributing to community discussions. You can later redeem the karma you have earned towards your subscription.
Your karma balance, recognition progress and how you earned your karma are all shown on your karma dashboard.
How you earn karma
Referrals
When you introduce someone to Orchard72 with your referral code and they go on to subscribe, you earn karma for the completed referral. How much you earn depends on what the person you introduced subscribes to, and the amount is always shown to you before it is added to your balance.
Community contributions
Taking part in the community (having your answers upvoted, having a reply accepted as a solution, and reaching community milestones) also earns karma, and it appears in your karma dashboard alongside your referral karma. A daily limit applies to community karma other than milestones, and karma from a post that a moderator or the spam filter removes or hides within a day of it being earned is reversed.
Visit the community forumHero and Guru recognition
As the karma you earn adds up, you progress through recognition tiers: Hero and then Guru. Your karma dashboard shows a progress bar towards your next tier and how much more karma you need to reach it. The thresholds are set by us and shown to you on the dashboard, so you can always see where you stand.
Redeeming your karma
You can redeem the karma you have earned towards your subscription from the redemption page. When you choose something to redeem, we show you the karma cost and a clear breakdown before you confirm, so there are no surprises.
- Your redeemable balance is always shown on your karma dashboard.
- The options you see depend on whether your account is a personal or a professional one.
- Amounts are shown in your local currency. Where tax can be worked out in advance it is set out separately before you confirm; otherwise it is calculated at checkout.
- Karma is a recognition balance. It is not cash and cannot be withdrawn.
The referral-reward disclosure
Some professions are governed by rules about accepting a benefit for making an introduction. Before any karma from a completed referral is added to your balance, we show you the relevant rule and ask you to confirm you have read it. You can review and confirm these disclosures from your karma dashboard whenever a referral completes.
If your professional regulator does not permit accepting this kind of benefit, no karma is added whichever option you choose, and the referral is recorded as declined.
Fair use
The karma programme is designed to reward genuine introductions and community participation. We apply fair-use limits to keep the programme sustainable, and your referral dashboard shows how many completed referrals you have made against the limit for the current period. Community karma from a post that a moderator or the spam filter removes or hides shortly after it is earned is reversed.
