Charity Profile

Your profile is the part of your charity that supporters actually read. This is what it holds, who can change it, and what is set elsewhere.

What the Profile Is For

The charity profile is the descriptive content behind your entry in the public charity directory and your own public charity page. It is what someone sees when they are deciding which charity to remember in their will, so it is worth writing rather than filling in.

Treat everything here as public

Every field on this page is intended for publication. The contact details in particular are the ones you want supporters to use, not an internal address or a personal mobile number.

Who can edit it

Editors, administrators and owners can change the profile. If your role is viewer the page opens in display mode with a note that you have view-only access, and no Edit button is offered.

Describing Your Charity

  • Short description: the one-paragraph summary used where space is tight, such as the directory listing. It is capped at 500 characters
  • Full description: the longer account of what your charity does, shown on your public profile
  • Mission statement: your mission in your own words

Contact

  • Website, public email and public phone: the routes you want supporters and their advisers to use
  • Public registration number: your charity registration number as you want it displayed. It is free text, so a charity registered in more than one place can show more than one number

Reach and Legacy Giving

Reach

  • Operating countries: every country your charity works in, chosen from the country picker rather than typed, so the list stays consistent across the platform
  • Languages supported: the languages your team can correspond in. The options come from us rather than being a fixed list in the page, so they stay in step with the rest of the platform

Legacy Giving

Two yes or no questions: whether your charity accepts gifts in wills, and whether it runs a legacy programme. They record what is true of your charity today so that supporters and their advisers are not left guessing. Neither answer changes how your charity can be named in a will.

Social Links

Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and YouTube. Fill in the ones you actively use and leave the rest blank. A link to an account nobody has posted on for three years does you no favours.

What Is Not Edited Here

Some details about your charity are deliberately outside this page, because they were established when your listing was approved and changing them has consequences beyond the profile.

  • Your charity's legal name and its web address: fixed at listing, because links already shared would otherwise break
  • Approval status and verification status: these follow our review, not an edit
  • Offices, team and updates: each has its own page in the portal

If something fixed is wrong

Contact support with the correction. Details established at listing are changed by us so that the public directory, existing links and anything already recorded against your charity stay consistent.
