Browser Permissions Help

Step-by-step guides to grant camera, microphone, passkey, and clipboard permissions in your browser

Last reviewed

Camera & Microphone Permissions

  1. Look for the camera icon in the address bar (next to the URL)
  2. Click the camera icon to open the permissions menu
  3. For both Camera and Microphone, select Allow
  4. Refresh the page (Cmd+R on Mac, Ctrl+R on Windows)
  5. Try recording again - you should now have access
Alternative method: Right-click the address bar → Site settings → Camera/Microphone → Allow

macOS System Permissions

  1. Open System Preferences → Security & Privacy → Privacy
  2. Click Camera in the left sidebar
  3. Make sure Google Chrome (or Microsoft Edge) is checked
  4. Click Microphone in the left sidebar and do the same
  5. Refresh the page in your browser
Success indicator: When permissions are granted correctly, you should see your camera preview and be able to record video

Passkey Permissions

Passkeys use your device's built-in security (Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, or device PIN). Browser permissions are typically handled automatically, but system-level security must be enabled.

macOS

  1. Ensure Touch ID or password login is enabled in System Preferences
  2. When prompted for passkey, use Touch ID or enter your device password
  3. Allow the browser to access your passkey when prompted

Windows

  1. Enable Windows Hello (Settings → Accounts → Sign-in options)
  2. Use fingerprint, facial recognition, or PIN when prompted
  3. Allow the browser to create/use passkey credentials

iOS / Android

  1. Ensure device biometrics (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint) or PIN is enabled
  2. When creating or using a passkey, authenticate with your biometric or PIN
  3. Passkeys are automatically synced via iCloud Keychain (iOS) or Google Password Manager (Android)
Note: Passkeys require HTTPS (secure connection). They won't work on http:// websites.

Clipboard Permissions

Clipboard permissions allow websites to copy text to your clipboard. Most browsers grant this automatically when you click a "Copy" button. If you encounter issues:

All Browsers

  1. Click the lock icon in the address bar
  2. Look for Clipboard permissions
  3. Set to Allow or Ask (recommended)
  4. Refresh the page if needed
Most common solution: Clipboard permissions are usually automatic. If copy fails, you can manually select and copy (Cmd+C / Ctrl+C) instead.

Common Issues & Troubleshooting

"Permission Denied" Error

  1. Check browser permissions (see instructions above)
  2. Check system permissions (macOS System Preferences / Windows Settings)
  3. Restart your browser - Close completely and reopen
  4. Try the website in an incognito/private window to rule out extension conflicts

"Camera Not Found" Error

  1. Test your camera in another app (FaceTime, Photo Booth, Camera app) to verify hardware works
  2. Check if another application is using the camera (Zoom, Teams, etc.) - close those apps
  3. Restart your computer if the camera appears stuck

"Camera Already in Use" Error

  1. Close all other apps that might use the camera (Zoom, Skype, Teams, FaceTime)
  2. Close all other browser tabs/windows that might be using the camera
  3. Check for background processes using your camera in Activity Monitor (Mac) or Task Manager (Windows)
